Nurse practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses who have additional education and nursing experience, which enables them to autonomously: diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, make referrals to specialists, and perform medical procedures.
Carla is the nurse practitioner in Sharbot Lake. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from York University and her Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Queen’s University. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner Carla worked as a critical care nurse in the emergency department of Kingston General Hospital and then as an outpost nurse in remote, fly-in only, First Nations Communities in the Sioux Lookout Zone of northern Ontario.
